At the start of Longevity week this event was an opportunity to hear about the work of the Healthy Ageing team and meet their ambitious, innovative funding recipients.
We were delighted that Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester - the world’s first age-friendly city region - gave an address at the showcase as keynote speaker.
The Healthy Ageing Challenge
The Healthy Ageing Challenge aims to enable businesses, including social enterprises, to develop and deliver products, services and business models that will be adopted at scale which support people as they age. This will allow people to remain active, productive, independent and socially connected across generations for as long as possible. This challenge supports the UK government’s Ageing Society Grand Challenge and is part of the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund, which bring together leading researchers and businesses to tackle today’s most important societal issues.
This interactive event was an opportunity to learn more about some of the unique and exciting products, services and business models, the Fund’s Trailblazers and Investment Accelerators are spearheading. It was an opportunity to hear from Healthy Ageing Challenge Director George MacGinnis, sector leaders, innovation experts and leading Ageing academics about their vision for how we can bring innovation in ageing into homes, work, health and communities.
The event also considered the impact of COVID-19 on innovation in ageing, as we navigate the changes, challenges and opportunities brought about by the pandemic.
